Week Twenty-Seven

I'm a bit late in posting this week since we've been busy here with Gramma Sue visiting.  As you can see from the pictures, Kai loved having his Gramma here to spoil him with lots of love and fun.

House Projects

Now that tax season is over and spring is here, we have been busy working on our house and our yard.  I can see how the novelty of mowing the grass and pruning the trees might wear off in a couple of years (or months for that matter), but for now it's quite the fun time!  Here's a little look at some of our current house projects...

We just used the leftover paint from the previous owners so that all of the walls in the living area would be the same colour (yes, I still spell like a Canadian, because that's what I am).

Half way there...Next week we're getting the tile surround done, as well as a mantle, TV cabinet and bookshelves to go above.

Okay, so I was mostly just posing for this picture.  Bryon had to come and finish cutting the branch for me since I wasn't strong enough :)

Week Twenty-Six

This week marked the official end to tax season for Bryon and the beginning of spring time weather here in Sandpoint.  So, Kai and I are both loving having daddy home, and being able to play outside more than we've been able to for the past few months.  It was also Kai's 6 month birthday this week.  It's so hard to believe that he's half a year old.  Where does the time go?

We made many many trips to Bryon's office during tax-season to deliver treats and caffeinated beverages :)

We printed Kai's foot and name into the new sidewalk behind our house, but later on they came and wiped it away.  Sad.

This is the face that greets me when I go to get Kai up in the morning!  What a great way to start the day.

Week Twenty-Five: On the Move

A phone call from me to Bryon last Wednesday went something like this...

Bryon:  Hi.

Me:  We're in trouble now!

Bryon: Why's that?

Me:  Kai's officially on the move.

Just before I called Bryon, I had been hanging a picture in Kai's room while he played peacefully on a blanket across the room.  However, when I turned around to check on him he was rapidly approaching me, rolling over and over until he got right up to me.  I just sat watching, amazed, until he grabbed the box of nails I had been using!  My first thought was, "Wow, good job Kaibo!", and my second thought was, "Wow, we're really in trouble now!", thus prompting the phone call to Bryon for some moral support.  Up until then, Kai has been content to only roll over once and then keep on playing, but he has never used his rolling skills to get from point A to point B.  Now it's like a whole new world has been opened up to him, and he loves it!  The question is, do mommy and daddy love it as much?  Don't get me wrong, we're very proud. BUT, when it means that nothing on the floor is safe from his curious little hands anymore, or when he wakes up crying at 6 a.m. because he's rolled to the end of his crib and gotten his feet stuck between the slats, it's a slightly different story. :)

Week Twenty-Four

Happy Easter!

It's fun as a little family to start new traditions, and celebrate holidays together.  This year we decided to celebrate Easter by going to the sunrise service on top of Schweitzer mountain.  It was definitely early, and definitely cold, but most definitely beautiful.  What a way to celebrate Christ's resurrection.  Afterwards, we descended on the chairlift and warmed up with some yummy brunch in the village before Bryon had to go back to work. (Thank goodness tax season is almost over!)

It's also fun to see our little guy discover new "talents" every week.  Even the simplest things amaze him when he first discovers how to do them, and then he does them repeatedly over and over again.  Some of his favorites from this week were...shaking his head back and forth (especially fun when we're trying to feed him!), blowing bubbles and attempting to drink from a sippy cup.

Week Twenty-Three: Baby Food Etc.

Kai is quickly becoming a champion eater.  As previously posted, rice cereal wasn't the biggest hit the first time he tasted it at four months old, but now it and several other foods are quickly devoured by our little guy.  I've been making my own baby food, and although it's quite the process, it's fun to do and much tastier than the store bought kinds.  So far, Kai's diet consists of yams, squash, apples, avocadoes, rice cereal and oatmeal.  I think squash is his favorite so far.  Every time he takes a bite he makes an emphatic "umm umm" sound and then opens his mouth wide for more.  So cute!

Other than making baby food, this week has been spent unpacking, settling into our new home, running lots of errands and making a new crib skirt for Kai.  It's so fun now that he's able to stay awake longer and really notice and participate in everything that's going on around him.  He's so curious and loves to be anywhere where there are lots of people or other things to watch.

We've been working on teaching Kai some table manners, such as not putting his hands in his mouth while he's eating.  So, this has become his eating pose - hands straight out to the sides, unless he gets really excited like above!
