Father's Day/Mother's Day

If you remember, Bryon gave me a wonderful Mother's Day gift of a weekend away to Canada.  Ironically, he booked our trip for Father's Day weekend!  It certainly made my job of planning a Father's Day celebration easy.  All I had to do was make sure we took along lots of good food for our weekend away and Bryon was happy. :)  Despite all three of us being sick, we had a wonderful and relaxing weekend in New Denver.

A morning canoe ride.  Kai hadn't been in a canoe since last summer, and he found it so exciting that he had a very hard time sitting on his bottom.  He much preferred running around the boat, trying to pick up sticks from the lake, and splashing away.  Sadly this was rather dangerous, so we made him sit down which resulted in sobs that I'm sure the whole lakeside community could hear. :(

A nice 3 hour nap followed by a hike along the lake.

And, a lovely dinner of BBQed steaks with roasted potatoes and asparagus.  Yummy!

This is what Bryon and I did each evening....sitting outside by a fire, reading and snacking with a lovely view of the lake.  It doesn't get much better.

On our way home we stopped in Sandon, a ghost town between New Denver and Kaslo.

We stopped in Kaslo for lunch and a fun break from the car seat.  Kai loves "quack quacks" or underducks. (Bryon calls these "underdogs".  Is this a Canadian/American difference??)

Sidenote:  Candy works wonders at keeping children awake in the car when you don't want them to fall asleep.  For example, when you're about to arrive at your destination, and you'd rather your child took a 3 hour nap there than take a 10 minute nap in the car, just feed them candy.  I'm sorry Kai for my very bad parenting skills.  I'm merely a desperate mother who loves naptime :)

Catching Up

Life and the blogging thereof is getting away from me at a rapid pace.  So, in an attempt to get back on track, here is an update of various events from the past few weeks.

A couple of weeks ago Bryon went on another ski excursion to the South Sister in Oregon with his friend Joe.  Meanwhile, Kai and I made the most of some non-rainy weather and spent the weekend outside gardening and playing.  Fun was had by all, and it's debatable as to who was the most tired by the end of the weekend :)

The road was closed, so the boys camped in the back of Joe's truck overnight and then biked the last few miles the next morning.

Bryon had the pleasure of using this lovely bike, which only worked if you didn't change gears.

Kai got to stay home and be mommy's big helper.

Kai's latest thing is dressing his beloved "Bear Bear" in the morning before he gets dressed himself.

Kai jumped in the pool with all of his clothes on while I was filling it up, so I just let him strip down and have fun.

Summer?

(This blog was written last week.  Obviously I have a lot of catching up to do blog wise, but for now, here's old news.)

The weather keeps taunting us with the hope that summer is here, and then yanking that hope away faster than you would believe.  As I write this, I'm drinking hot Earl Grey tea and wearing a hoodie, jeans and warm socks.  But, as you'll see from the pictures, we have had some watermelon-eating, shorts-wearing days in the past couple of weeks.  Hopefully we'll have a few more of those in the future, 'cause I feel like I've been wearing this hoodie for about nine months straight now!

Kai had to stop to examine every rock on the rock-covered path, so we probably walked 1/4 of a mile in an hour :)
