Week Forty-Five

Another week and more fun times to be had.  My parents came to visit us this week which meant lots of grandpa and grandma time for Kai, a few "dates" for Bryon and me, lots of help around our house, and a few adventures.  Grandpa and grandma left early this morning to take a train trip all the way to Minnesota and Maine, but they'll be back to visit us again in a couple of weeks.

A little bit of hiking and a little bit of huckleberry picking by us, and a lot of huckleberry eating by Kai!  We could hardly keep up to his big appetite, but we managed to come home with enough for an apple/huckleberry cobbler, huckleberry pancakes and huckleberry scones.

It was better once Kai learned how to pick the berries off the bushes himself.

Our house trim is now freshly caulked and painted thanks to all of my dad's help.

Kai's highchair was in the process of being refinished, so he had to eat big boy style for a day.  I think he felt pretty proud of himself.

  

Week Forty-Four

Ten months old and here are the official stats:

Weight: 20 lbs. 14 oz.

Height: 29 1/2 inches 

According to the charts, that puts him more on the string-bean side of things, but I think he still has enough roly-poly to keep him nice and cute :)

It's been a low-key week, with Kai and I trying to keep out of Bryon's way as much as possible while he studies for his next CPA exam.  Kai loves his daddy so much that it's sometimes hard to stay away, but we've done our best, and we've still managed to fit in some daddy time too.

It was funny...he kept trying to crawl deeper into the water until he realized that meant his mouth would eventually fill up with water!  Then he would splutter, cough, back up and try again.

Yes, he does have a few friends who are boys :)  This is at the playgroup we go to every Thursday.

My worst fear has been realized....Kai wants to be a football player.

Apparently it works as a step-ladder as well.  We have quite the monkey on our hands these days.

Kai always looks so cute when he first wakes up, so I tried to get a picture but obviously he wasn't too thrilled about that!

Week Forty-Three

Usually I take way too many pictures each week and then have a hard time deciding which ones I like best, but tonight as I sat down to blog I discovered that I'd only taken two pictures!  Apparently it hasn't been a very exciting week.  The only excitement has been attempting to get Kai to enjoy being in his pack 'n play.  Up until now, he's only used it to sleep which he does well.  BUT, playing in it is a completely different story. Now that he is a master of mobility, he hates being confined to any sort of space which makes life kind of crazy for Bryon and I at times.  As you'll see in the first picture, Bryon went to great lengths to get Kai to enjoy being in his pack 'n play, and as you'll see from the picture after that, it worked!  He'll now play happily in there for quite a while.  Ahhh, success (and peace)!

Week Forty-Two

Is it really only 10 more weeks until my wee little baby is one year old?!  Before he was born, everyone told me to enjoy each and every moment with him, but no matter what you do, time still continues to fly. 

However, some days you do want the time to fly.  Like this past Sunday when it seemed like I changed more diapers than I usually change in a week.  Thankfully that issue is over and we're attempting to remember the finer moments of this past week...like a last few days with Kooch here, and Rachel coming to visit, and enjoying the Keb Mo concert at "The Festival in Sandpoint" just down the street from our house.  Have I mentioned that I love summer?

Bryon's Father's Day gift is finally bought, hung and being enjoyed on a daily basis.

No, no, I wasn't thinking of myself at all when I chose this Father's Day gift :)  But, I must say, it is mighty nice, especially when it means that Kai stays still for once in his life!

Week Forty-One

What can I say...I love summer!  And, even more, I love sharing it with friends and family, especially the youngest member of our family who is experiencing summer for the very first time.  This week held a few more summer adventures, as well as a little preparation for winter :)

As usual, Kai wasn't too impressed to be put in his life jacket.

But, once they got going, he loved kayaking with daddy.

Joe and Nathan are here visiting us this week.

New ski goggles!  Bryon is obviously a little eager for winter to arrive (that makes one of us).  We found these goggles on sale downtown, so we got them in hopes that Kai will have a fun first season on skis.  Apparently he's excited to just be wearing the goggles.

Kai is getting really good at feeding himself.  He eats A LOT of food, and is really good at getting it in his mouth most of the time!
