Celebrating Motherhood

My third annual Mother's Week has come and gone, and it was lovely as always.  Being a mom is great every day of the year, but being spoiled for one week is the icing on the cake.  Thanks again to my man and my boy for a fun and special week.

Mother's Week 2012 begins!

And was continued with many fun activities each day.  On this particular evening, I had to follow a thread which was wound all over our house, shed and yard, and finally at the end found the note below...

...inviting me out to dessert with my boys at the Dover Bay Cafe.

I'm not sure who enjoyed dessert more, Kai or myself!

We stopped in Nelson for lunch on our way to Kaslo for Mother's Day weekend.

The lovely beach at the Kootenai Hideaway, where we last stayed in October 2010.

The cabin has about 300 feet of waterfront, giving it a never-ending supply of rocks.

The rowboat was a big hit too (and thankfully Kai sat very nicely in it, as opposed to our experience canoeing last June!).

On Mother's Day morning I was blindfolded and led down to the beach.

I knew the guys had been working on a special project for me, and here it was...

...a planter box in memory of the baby we lost this winter.  The box and flowers were absolutely beautiful and brought both tears to my eyes and a smile to my face.  We will never forget our little one, but are so glad they are safe in the arms of Jesus.

Kai's interpretation of Bryon's rock-skipping methods :)

So much joy in the simple things.

Such determination!

And success!

That afternoon we went into town for lunch and then toured the S.S. Moyie, a passenger sternwheeler that operated on the waters of Kootenay Lake from 1898-1957.

It was so interesting to see how people traveled during this era.  This is the "Ladies' Saloon" with berths on either side.

Kai attempted some wading, but the water was pretty frigid still!

After a wonderful and relaxing weekend we bought our share of Canadian goodies and returned home, where Kai immediately got to work in his "dirt box" (every child's dream and every mother's nightmare!).
