Koetje's Visit

Nathan Koetje came to visit us for two weeks at the beginning of April on his way home from Korea. We had fun trying to show him everything Hawaii has to offer. Here are a few things we did while he was here...

Koetje cliff-jumping at Maunawili Falls

We spent an evening in downtown Honolulu where they have music and art shows highlighted on the first Friday of each month.

Rock-climbing on the North Shore

The view from our rock-climbing spot

Rope-swinging at Jackass Ginger. We decided that Koetje needed a little cape to show off his great technique.

Watching for whales as we hiked the North Shore

And we saw some...breaching right off shore!! (rather small in this picture but so incredible in real life)

Snorkelling at Hanauma Bay

Shrimp shacks on the North Shore

Frisbee at Kailua Beach, right by our house

Michael's Birthday

Our friend Michael had his 26th birthday at the end of March (yes, I'm slightly behind on my blogging!). He had also just moved into his new condo in downtown Honolulu. So, we had a joint house-warming and birthday party for him. His new condo was great...complete with pool and bowling alley!

Mom and Dad Gamache Visit Hawaii

My parents came to visit us in March. It was really fun to have them here, and show them around. While they were here, they also visited Maui and the Haggai Institute where they might volunteer for a few months next year.
Thanks for coming to visit!

Dad and Bryon playing frisbee at Lanikai Beach.

Swimming at Halona Bay. Mom was in the water every chance she got, while this was the first time that we coaxed dad into the "cold" waters.

We visited a couple of botanical gardens. Mom was amazed with the giant pods!

On our 6 month anniversary, mom and dad took us out for dinner in Waikiki.

Mom and Dad visited Juaneva, a friend from Quadra who now lives on Maui.

Celebrating Prince Kuhio Day on the Sand Bar

Prince Kuhio Day is a state holiday here in Hawaii. So, since as Mark had just gotten his boaters license, Mark and Ari invited a few friends to spend the day boating around Kaneohe Bay, hanging out at the sandbar, and eating a fabulous breakfast on the boat. Unfortunately, Bryon had to miss out since he was working all day.

Jump rope using the anchor rope.

It's a turtle!

View from the sandbar to our old house...it's a little tiny speck in the middle of the picture.

Rockclimbing

Last weekend we went rockclimbing at Makapuu Point. It might just be one of the most beautiful places I've climbed, although Lighthouse Park in Vancouver is a close tie.

Hike up the Olomanas

A couple of weeks ago Bryon and I hiked up to the Olomana Peaks, which are near our new house. I thought I was going to die a few times, but Bryon bribed me to the top with promises of ice-cream when we returned home. I finally made it, and it was definitely worth the hike. The 360 degree views were amazing!

Our new place is near the middle of this picture below.

Cinnamon Buns on the BBQ!

The other day Bryon came home from the store with a package of Pillsbury Cinnamon Buns that he wanted for breakfast. Unfortunately, he'd forgotten that we don't have an oven at our new house! But, we couldn't just throw them away, so we cooked them on the BBQ. That was definitely a first for us, but look how fabulous they turned out!

Moving Day

We moved from our house in Kaneohe Bay to a basement suite in Kailua. We had a great time moving with our friends Eunice and Taylor.

Here is the front of the new house where our suite is.

And here is the entrance to our suite.

Taylor is exhausted. The girls obviously must not have worked too hard.

Valentine's Day

Christy and I spent our first Valentine's Day in Hawaii on our deck with a little.

Christy got up with me in the morning to make me breakfast. It was quite delicious as you can tell with the goofy looking grin that I have in this picture.

I surprised Christy when I got home from work with a sweet cruiser bike. We have a lot fun biking around town together.

Danielle's Visit

The lovely Danielle Drouillard came to visit us for a week on her way to Australia. We loved having her here to hang out with us, and be our last house-guest in our old house.

We braved the beach, despite the cloudy weather.

Danielle and I gave Bryon a hair buzz after he decided to give up growing it out.

Danielle and I got to see the last day of the Pipeline Pro Surfing Competition. Gnarly.

We spent a day relaxing at Waikiki Beach.

It's been a while...

Well, it's been a while since we've been on our blog. It's so hard to believe that it's already March! That means we've been married for over five months, Bryon has lived in Hawaii for almost a year, I haven't had a job for 7 months (crazy!), and the weather is starting to warm up again!
Life has been busy, and my computer died which limited blogging time. But, we're back with more pictures and some news to catch you up on a few of the things that have happened in the last month.
