Father's Day

Before you have kids everyone tells you how wonderful it is, but also how much work it is.  I'm the first to admit, parenting is the hardest thing I've done in my life!  But, having someone great to parent with makes the hard moments/days/weeks seem easier and more bearable, and it makes the wonderful moments even better.  So, thanks to Bryon for sharing in this wonderful journey with me, and for keeping me sane throughout it all!  Kai couldn't ask for a better daddy.

For the Father's Day weekend we went camping at Suttle Lake in Central Oregon.  It was our first real camping trip as a family, and due to Kai's history of never falling asleep in a tent I was a bit worried!  Especially since we were all sharing a  fairly small tent.  But, it ended up being great!  It took him a couple of hours to fall asleep, but then he slept until 7.  The loud crows and bright sunlight woke me up long before him.  So, we're already planning a few more camping trips for the summer.

We hung out at Scout Lake until we could check into our tent site at Suttle Lake.

Rafting with daddy.

Always telling stories and talking with his hands.

Helping gather firewood.

Steak, corn and potatoes for my midwest-born husband :)

Kai's first time roasting marshmallows.

And, eating s'mores!

More meat and potatoes for my man!  Bacon, eggs, hashbrowns and toast for breakfast.  Yum!

On Sunday we hiked around the lake, taking breaks here and there.

Some More of Life Lately

Still catching up!  Actually, I think I'm always catching up on here.  Gone are the days of being on time with recording things on the blog!
So, here are the (documented) events that we've been up to recently.

This...

...and this are the sorts of things that happen while I'm making dinner :)

We spent the May long weekend in Bend.  We'd planned to ski, but arrived too late so went for a hike/bike along the river instead.

We got to stay with our friends Josh and JoJo who have a pool in their neighborhood.  Kai loved the shallow kids pool!

Frisbee golf
Followed by shave ice.  It doesn't get much better!

Tired boy after a very fun and busy weekend!

My parents also came to visit in May and we took them to see the beginning of rose season at the Portland Rose Garden.

We also went with my parents to Silver Falls park and did a little hike.

Bryon went on a weekend camping/skiing trip to the South Sister with a couple of friends.

Picnic at the Rose Garden.

Planting our little vegetable garden.

Bryon's first triathalon, as he trains for the Leadman in September.  He did really well!

Kai obviously needs to work on his golfing technique!
