We decided to put away our TV for Lent. No shows, no movies, nothing. It's done its purpose for sure - giving all of our minds more breathing room and time to focus on things that are more important.
Besides filling the emptier space with spiritual time, we've been reading more books, playing more games, catching up on much needed rest and finally taking some time to catch up on this old blog.
So, here's a look at our October.
| Scavenger hunt for a friend's birthday party. |
| More soccer games. |
| On our way to Steamboat Springs for our last camping trip of the year. |
| Once again, the "hippy hot springs" were a big hit. |
| Rock-throwing competitions at our campsite. |
| Mr. Pterodactyl |
| S'mores and a bedtime story. |
| Chopping firewood at sunrise. There's never much sleeping-in happening around our kids! |
| Graham crackers for a breakfast appetizer. |
| It was our first time staying at a KOA, and while not my favourite campground, it did have its perks...like this mini-golf course. |
| Later that day we hiked to Fish Creek Falls. |
| Mr. Independent |
| On our way home we stopped for another hike up to Lake Agnes. |
| Daddy's his favourite. |
| It's rough when things don't go your way. And, mommy standing there taking pictures probably doesn't help things get any better ;) |
| Last game of the season. |
| Brother's hugs usually make things better. |
| A beautiful day in Boulder. |
| Fun at the park with friends. |
| Grandma came to visit for a few days in October. Kai really wanted to do crossword puzzles with her, so she made him his own. |
| Since Grandma was here mid-October we had an early birthday celebration for Kai with her. She helped Kai's dream of a dino birthday cake come true. We made a chocolate cake and then let him go to town...volcano, fossil dig, pterodactyl nest etc. |
| He was so proud of his piece of art :) |
| Grandma helping Kai look for the remains of a dinosaur that was accidentally run over by the lawn mower :( |
| Anders' first time on his balance bike. |
| Kai's birthday morning. Follow that string to find your present! |
| A new bike! Bryon found it on Craigslist and fixed it up for Kai. It's his first bike with hand brakes and gears, which was kind of intimidating for him but also exciting. |
| Biking at 6:30 a.m. in his pjs. :) |
| After school with one of his new dinosaurs. Our neighbor gave us a huge bag of dinosaurs that were hand-me-downs from his co-worker, so we saved some for Kai's birthday. He was thrilled! |
| I still can't believe he's 6! |
| These two. Love 'em. |
| Uh oh, somebody stole some dinosaurs! |
| That night we had Bryon's parents over for a birthday dinner. I attempted to cut the brownies into dinosaur shapes, which wasn't too successful! Thankfully Kai still thought it was pretty cool. |
| Bryon's co-worker gave us tickets to see our local hockey team the Colorado Eagles. It was surprisingly exciting and fun, but I guess that makes sense since I'm Canadian :) |
| Kai was literally on the edge of his seat for a good portion of the game. |
Sometimes when you wake up really early, daddy takes you to get donuts. Probably not the best habit to reinforce :) |
| Halloween! One thrilled, the other not so much. |
| We let him switch costumes (yes, the same duck costume Kai wore for three years in a row), but he still wasn't happy. |
| Sometimes trying to get pictures of these two is like pulling teeth! |
| Here's part of the gang, ready to go trick-or-treating. |
| These two were fast! We could hardly keep up. |
And, I'm going to save all of our October London adventures for a separate post. :)
